IMPORTANCE of VOLUNTEERING

The Town of Malabar (TOM) Trails & Greenways Committee (T&GC) – is all about volunteering and always has been.  Over the years, many miles of trails have been planned, cut, and maintained by the TOM T&GC.  Signage, maps, kiosks, and trail shelters of the Malabar Trail System are all the result of efforts of the TOM T&GC.  Volunteering is the key strength of the T&GC.  Volunteering with the TOM T&GC is open to all adults regardless of town or residence and/or T&GC membership.  Past work events have included TOM residents and other residents of south Brevard County.  Volunteers have come from groups such BMBA (Brevard Mountain Bike Association) and Malabar HOAs.  Volunteering for the Malabar Trail System is so important to TOM that even the Town’s jewel preservation, typically referred to as the Cameron Preserve, has an official name of “Richard E. Cameron and Volunteers Wildlife Preserve.

SUPPORT FOR T&GC PROJECTS

Traditionally, Town of Malabar budgets $10,000 each year which is typically used for signage and construction lumber / materials.  In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, most of that allocation went for installation of a new fire well at the Eagles Nest Trailhead – which will provide water for horses and an emergency water source in the event of forest fires in south Malabar.

Additional support for TOM T&GC Projects has come from local individuals and vendors through contributions of work, equipment use, and/or materials.  The T&GC appreciates such support and encourages others to additionally support the Malabar Trail System through the TOM T&GC.

If you, or your company, would like to help support the Malabar Trail System, please contact Barbara Cameron to learn of opportunities and information on possible tax benefits related to your support.  For a return call, or email response from Barbara, please mention “Malabar Trails” in a message you leave at 321-508-5565 or send to bkcameron.bc@gmail.com, respectively.
